Major Demographic Characteristics
Mexico's population is not very diverse when compared to the populations of Canada and the United States. 90% of the people of Mexico can be classified into two main ethnic groups: Mestizo, which is a group consisting of Amerindian-Spanish ancestry and is 60% of the population, and Amerindian, which is 30%. The remaining 10% can be classified as white (9%) or other (1%) (CIA).
The population of Mexico is roughly 110 600 000. This gives Mexico the 2nd-highest population in Latin America (after Brazil) (PRB).
The birth rate of Mexico is high (but decreasing). It is roughly 19 people (per 1000), while the death rate is relatively low. It is roughly 5 people (per 1000). This means that Mexico is in stage 3 of the Demographic Transition progression. This gives Mexico a high rate of natural increase (1.4%) (PRB).
